While anal fistula is certainly an experience that is very painful and unpleasant, the process of recovering from it is thankfully very convenient. The best part about the post-fistula treatment is that one can follow home-made remedies for quick recovery.         

Following are seven home remedies to follow for quick recovery post fistula surgery:

  • Regular Intake of Highly Nutritional Food and Medicines

One must not forget to have a high intake of nutrients in the diet along with the prescribed medicines. Include fruits and vegetables like banana, apple, broccoli, cauliflower, spinach etc. in the diet. A healthy diet is a great way to not only recover quickly from fistula, but also from any condition affecting health.

  • Over the Counter Ointments

Ointments are another effective remedy to treat fistula. Grapefruit seed extract can be used as anal fistula ointment. It needs to be gently applied to the affected area and washed with cold water after 20 minutes. Also, tea tree oil and pranacharya pilescure ointment can be used as a topical ointment on the affected anal region.

  • Stool Softeners

Stool softeners like a dose of Triphala Guggul, intake cabbage juice and olive oil comes in the category of rich healthy fats. It helps in the lubrication of bowel system and allows in the easy passing of stools.

  • Sitz Bath

A hot sitz bath is actually very beneficial to ease the irritation and discomfort that anal fistula brings. It helps in the healing of sores and also enhances the blood supply to the anal area. It involves filling the bathtub with warm water and adding the Epsom salt in it. One must sit in the bathtub up to their waist for 15 to 20 minutes and must take the bath twice a day.

  • Aloe Vera

An effective natural remedy to cure the anal fistula, Aloe vera has a huge amount of the healing and pain-relieving properties which help to ease the symptoms of anal fistula. To use it, one must cut the aloe vera leaf and take the gel out of it; which needs to be applied to the affected area—2-3 times in a day.

  • Wipes

While it is important to keep the body clean, keeping anus clean after each bowel movement is vitally important.  The Preparation H Medicated Wipes with Witch Hazel and Aloe can be used, so can Tucks Medicated Pads, or even baby wipes to keep the area clean.

  • Cold Compressors

Cold compressors are used applied using refrigerated water, ice or gel pack. Cold compress reduces blood flow to an injury and is ideal for soft-tissue injury. The process involves the person sitting on it for 15 to 20 minutes.

In addition to the above points, it is important to wear loose-fitting clothes so that there is no pain while sitting or running.
